As many of you know, I began my work with Concrete Jungle during the pandemic as a volunteer at one of the grocery delivery depots. This was a unique time for CJ as the organization had shifted its programming to respond to new challenges around food access. My personal perspective on the value and strength of community was radicalized by my work with CJ during the pandemic. Post pandemic, I found it to be impossible to return to my previous way of existing. I’d learned so much about myself and the world via my involvement in the grocery delivery program and needed a way to incorporate the valuable lessons and connections in my “post pandemic” living. Concrete Jungle was no different, it had experienced a tremendous amount explosive growth during the pandemic which highlighted the need crystallize it’s focus on health equity impacts of food insecurity. As a newly minted board member, I lead the efforts to develop new mission, vision, and value statements as a testament to our commitment and excitement for growth. These words serve as a reminder of the values that best connect us to our clients, partners and volunteers, help us to refocus on the ways in which we best serve our community, and reimagine the ways in which our work can create a more nourished world.



As we continue to grow, these words will serve as guideposts for CJ, informing how we navigate our work to increase fresh food access and decrease food waste in Georgia. So without further ado:


Our mission: Concrete Jungle forages, farms, and supports food access across Georgia.
Our vision: Communities are well nourished in a world with no food waste.
Our values statements:
Community
Concrete Jungle serves the food insecure communities of Georgia, and we could not accomplish our mission without our amazing community of volunteers, donors, tree and orchard owners, farmers, and partner organizations. We create connections between people and organizations through fresh, healthy food.
Food and Health Equity
Systemic injustices perpetuate disparities for marginalized communities, and we design our programming to improve access to healthy foods for all. Every day we strive to provide more high quality, fresh produce to families that lack access. We believe equitable access can play a vital role in reducing chronic disease and the impact these health issues have on families.
Resourcefulness
We are proud to live in a state with a tremendous abundance of fresh produce available to serve all Georgians. We find quick and innovative ways to fight barriers to food access and share this abundance with others.
Learning
We are proud of the experience and expertise we continue to glean and we are eager to share our knowledge. Additionally, we believe everyone in our community has something they can teach us.
Fun
Concrete Jungle started as a party, Ciderfest. We try to infuse the ethos of that party into all that we do. We are proud to serve over 20,000 individuals each year and we make it fun to support people in our community.
